The classrooms are so far removed that they're even hard to find on the eagle eye view maps of the place that can be found scattered through out the campus sidewalks the first few days. By the time you've finally found where these rooms actually are, you've already missed most of the introductions to the course, and by the time you've made the journey over to them, the class might as well be over if it isn't already.
As time goes by you come to realize the inconveniences don't stop at locating these PCs. You begin to get used to never being on time. Fortunately for you, your teacher understands the situation, saving you from having to go into detail of why you're out of breath and 14 minutes late. In addition to being late because you had to make the trek across campus, your fingers are so numb from the walk in the cold you can hardly hold your pencil.
If SLCC knows how many classes they have, why couldn't they have ordered the class schedules to fit all the classes in real class rooms instead of having to add some portables? Are there really so many classes that every room on the Redwood campus has to be occupied full time, forcing them to create additional make-shift rooms? It seems like they could rearrange class schedules better to save themselves from the cost of these extra rooms and us from the hassles these rooms create just by changing the times classes are scheduled. I'm constantly passing empty class rooms. Do I really want to be educated by people who can't find a solution that's better than this?
I agree with you this was a big issue for me to when i started my first semester here i never ended up finding the class so sadly so i decided to just drop it. They really do need to come up with a solution for this.
ReplyDeleteThis is a difficult subject. I can definitely see where your coming from. Why pay for classes that you cannot even make it to on time? It just sound miserable to even have to walk that far. Everyone has been complaining about poor parking, but sounds to me like even if you get a good parking spot your still going to have to make the jaunt out to your portable. However, from my experience so far, every class is literally full. I have not attended a class so far this semester that has not had, at least, 2 people sitting in unregistered hoping that someone will drop. Maybe it's neccesary?
ReplyDeleteI think they should add a little more time for us to get around the campus. It may not be the U, but it's still a long walk between even the main buildings. It's either run there and hope to make it within ten minutes, or give up and walk and be late and lose points. It shouldn't be that way. Classes should get out a little bit earlier or start just a little bit later. I think even 5 extra minutes would help. Not a lot, but 15 minutes seems about right to get around slcc.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I walk passed a ton of empty class rooms everyday going to my classes. There has got to be a way to organize class times so classes don't have to be in the portables. I've never had a class in a portable but if I ever do I'll probably end up dropping it. Nobody likes those things.
